The making of the Barcelona Table July 25 2014, 0 Comments
We wanted to show you the many steps to create our unique and beautiful Barcelona table. It takes about 3 days from start to finish. The 3-Layer handrubbed natural hardoil finish is fully hardened after 4 weeks and gives the surface an extremely durable and at the same time completely petrochemical free finish.
The legs are being glued to the Top with tenons
It is important to glue the legs on straight
The table is fine sanded with a rotary excenter sander
The table is fine sanded by hand
The underside gets a first coat of oil
Now the top gets its first coat of oil

A warm glow May 16 2014, 0 Comments
For this great project in Dunrobin the clients hired us to design and fabricate their custom kitchen.
After seeing our display kitchen on the 2013 Ottawa Home and Design show the clients new we were the right choice for them.
The clients really liked our show kitchen because it looked modern and clean but had a warm feel to it so we knew what finishes to choose. For their large kitchen space we decided to bring it up a notch. Instead of high gloss lacquer accents we chose a back painted glass for the upper doors. The glass part of the backsplash is lit up with an LED light strip so it glows. In the back part of the kitchen we had to incorporate a stacked washer and dryer. The room has a lot of angles and bulkheads and a air return that needed special attention at the planning stage.
Light stained book matched black walnut veneer wrapping aroud the whole kitchen. Even on the island the veneer wraps around the sides a specialty of handwerk interiors. Back painted glass accents and lots of ambient light sources to give the kitchen a warm glow.

Bar Kitchen in high gloss
Our Client was looking for a Bar kitchen with a very modern look.He wanted a Fridge and Freezer with an ice maker, a microwave, a drop down surface for plates, a pull out work surface, a recycling sorter pullout, drawers and a display area for glasses and expensive liquors. There was also a painting worth over 12000.- that he asked us to integrate in the unit.
The design was developed together with Interior Designer Gail Thomson. Rendering done by handwerk interiors.
We choose a high gloss laquer with stainless steel accents for the finish. The doors have integrated handle profiles or open with a tip on mechanism. The lift up door has an electronic servo drive which means it opens and closes with the push of a button. The glass shelves are back lit with LED light strips and all interior spaces have integrated LED puck lights. The pullout work surface and the the drop down door have a stainless steel inlay to make them durable.
Teak & Walnut April 22 2014, 0 Comments
Handwerk recently fabricated and installed cabinets and millwork for 2 Bathrooms in an older house on 4th Ave. This project was another succesfull colaboration between Designer Serina Fraser and the Handwerk team. We carefully choose the veneers in this case walnut and teak. See the Detailing on the walnut vanity in Image 1. The veneer wraps around the end gable in a beautiful line. The barnboards where cut to fit flush in a recess of the Drywall. Before the barnboards were inserted we treated the edges with a special vinegar solution to make them look grey just as the front surface.
Part of the scope were Bathroom one: walnut vanity with handle free opening, Live edge solid walnut floating shelves, Barnboards and high gloss floating shelf
Bathroom 2 and laundry: Teak vanity, Teak mirror frame, Live edge solid maple shelf stained to match the Teak veneer, upper white laquer shaker frame cabinets, Birch plywood countertop with laminate top.

They entertain a lot and often host friends in their kitchen to watch hockey games. One requirement was to incorporate a large island to accommodate eight people and a corner media cabinet for the TV.
The finishes had to give the space an elegant and warm look.
We chose a grey veneer for the primary finish and a white high gloss lacquer for the accent color.
The backsplash and countertop were chosen by the clients.
Exciting project in Rockliffe park: Old meets New April 09 2014, 0 Comments
We have just received the images from our recent project in Rockliffe Park.
This is one of those projects that shows how fantastic modern design can work in an older home.
Old and new design can not only coexist, it can transform a dated place into something new and exciting. Or as in this case can emphasize the beauty of the old and the new features of the house.
The beautifully crafted original mouldings, suddenly draw attention against the reduced design of the Wenge wall paneling.
Handwerk interiors fabricated and installed a range of beautifully crafted cabinets and other mill work items including:
view from hallway
Design and layout was a collaboration between Jane Chapmann Architects and Serina Fraser from Clear designs.
The finishes and handles where chosen by the client from our selection in the Handwerk showroom.
The cabinet doors and the wall paneling are made from engineered Wenge veneer with a clear lacquer finish. For the white accents we chose white lacquered high gloss.
